PK-Carsport ends season on a high

SAN LUIS, ARGENTINA. Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin won the last round of the FIA GT season in San Luis, Argentina. In their PK Carsport Saleen S7R they finished ahead of the Phoenix Corvette of Hezemans - Gollin and the SRT Corvette of Soulet - Ledesma.

Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen arrived in Argentina, where the last race of the FIA GT Championship took place on Sunday, one week before the race. The Belgian pairing immediately went out to discover the brand new track and what they found was something amazing…“The track is even better than what we could have hoped for and we are looking forward to race on it", commented Bert Longin earlier this week.

Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen set down a very fine performance in the qualifying session of the last FIA GT round of the season in San Luis, Argentina. After both free sessions, the two drivers found a very good and balanced set-up. “Indeed, we did a great job. The team was perfect and the car feels really amazing. We had a little problem in free practice with a water pipe and a wheel that came off, but the rest was just perfect", explained Bert Longin.
In qualifying Bert Longin qualified the Saleen SR7 in fifth place. “A fine result and I hope that we will be on the podium tomorrow", told his team mate Anthony Kumpen.

In a very challenging race, Bert Longin secured a top-5 in his opening stint, while Anthony Kumpen could close the gap to the frontrunners and Bert Longin got the Saleen back in second position for the ultimate stint of the season. Bert got passed Mike Hezemans with only ten minutes to go and the Belgian Saleen crossed the line in first place after what was a real thriller.
Both drivers were delighted in the press conference. “The team and Pirelli did a fantastic job and we made no mistakes whatsoever", both Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen declared after the race. “This is the perfect way to end a difficult season and it’s also a the best beginning of the new upcoming 2009 season. Thanks to the team, the suppliers, our families and every single supporter of the team for what we achieved here!"
